Works for me Wednesday - Saving those "Masterpieces"

Several blogs that I read post helpful tips on "Works for Me Wednesday." I've seen lots of clever ideas and thought I would pass one along.

The girls are always bringing home "masterpieces" from school. I always sort through what is worth saving and what isn't. If it's a worksheet or coloring page, those usually stick around for the week, but then I chunk them. The projects that they are most proud of or include something personal - like their picture, handprint, etc., I keep in one of those under-the-bed storage bins. I keep in in my hall closet and as soon as those projects come home, that's where they go for safe keeping.

I remember looking under the bookcase at my parent's house and finding old projects I worked on. I loved to look at the things I did and see how my handwriting and drawings changed. I want the girls to have those same treasures when they get older.

I'd love to hear your ideas! Leave them in the comments or send me an email. I can always use a good organizational tip. I know many of you have me beat on that!

Jennifer,

I also display Ian's favorite projects or the ones done using the most creative tools, i.e. the painting done with a fly swatter and a fly stamp. Very cute! I use the door to our study/play room as Ian's personal showcase "wall". It is currently showcasing 5 pieces of artwork. After a few weeks, I take some down and put new ones up.

I have 3 paper ream boxes in the top of my closet with each of my kids names on the outside and I threw stuff in there over the years. I was looking for something the other day and noticed I even had their report cards in there too. They hold a lot of memories!

I am a friend of Christy Dean's. I was on her blog...saw your post & was looking for a masterpiece tip myself! I've been told a good idea is to scan the masterpiece into the computer then save them for the kids with the treasured pictures. My husband is all for this (saves storage space!), but it would lose the actual "feel" of the work. Maybe do both? Just incase of fire or water damage? I have yet to scan anything! I two boxes at the top of my closet just like everyone else!
